We started our first topic 'We're Special' by being visited by the aliens from 'Here
Come the Aliens' who have decided to come back to earth to learn all about the human
race. We spent our first week thinking about our feelings with the help of the 'Mr
Men'. We thought about what made us happy, grumpy and worried and practiced showing
We then looked at how our bodies are similar and different to the aliens. We labelled
a body outline and used George the school skeleton and 'FunnyBones' to explore the
parts and importance of and recreate the human skeleton. We became artists and made
a clay face with all the necessary features.

Also for the We're Special topic, Mrs Taylor helped us understand the sense of hearing before we made our own musical instruments. We explored the other senses too with food tasting, smelling and feeling games and I spy walks. We also made our own junk modelling musical instruments and played them to each other. We thought about our own families and enjoyed sharing photographs of our families and friends and understanding the role undertaken by each family member. After half term we have been learning about animals. We learnt about different classes of animals and had a go at classifying some well-known animals.
Ark Farm Ark Farm visited the school and we enjoyed learning about different farm animals. We chose our favourite farm animal and made masks!
Puffins enjoyed their trip to Tesco’s The “From Farm to Fork” people were on hand to show the children behinds the scenes of the busy supermarket. They experienced being fishmongers and bakers, and even had a go at finding which countries the fruit and vegetables came from and how far they had to travel.

During the Spring Term we learnt all about Katie Morag and where she lives on the Isle of Struay. We posted letters home about what we had learnt after hearing all about how the post works from a local Post Lady. We celebrated the end of the topic with a Ceilidh where we watched our Green Screen films we had recorded during Computing lessons.
