Our TALC School Curriculum

Our exciting TALC (Teaching Active Lifelong Learning in Community) curriculum is based on

Curriculum leaflets, explaining what will be learnt in each theme, can be found on class pages on the website and previous curriculum leaflets can be seen on the Newsletters section of the website.
Curriculum leaflets for Parents/Carers are also on the class pages for Early Years (Ducklings, Swans and Kingfishers) and these follow the guidance in the national EYFS curriculum guidance  https://www.gov.uk/education/early-years-curriculum.

Our agreed Teaching and Learning strategy

Intent

Our intention is:

knowledge and skills planned for will be are balanced with the ability to understand and apply learning inside and outside the classroom. Each individual can find their passion for learning through Community, charitable and co-curricular activities. Lighting a spark in every child in an increasingly digital world requires each child to be able to apply their learning, be resilient, work independently or in collaboration or community, remain fit and healthy, and be inquisitive and inspired.

Trips and Visits and visitors to school enrich children’s learning experiences and are a key part of our curriculum and learning strategy. This is to support our aim for life-long learning for children. Computing and IT is embedded in many aspects of the curriculum, whilst also being a stand-alone subject. We aim to ensure e safety, critical analysis and research is developed for children as they interact with technology accordingly.

Implementation

Embedded in our curriculum subjects and our curriculum themes are high level thinking skills and active teaching and learning strategies that promote the teaching of learning behaviours that support this curriculum offer to equip children with the skills in how to learn and apply what they know.

How teaching and learning is delivered

Planning Year groups plan together to ensure children in parallel classes have similar experiences. Some subjects are planned as ‘stand –alone’ subjects and some subjects are incorporated into a theme the children study that half term or term (see below).

Curriculum by Year Group

Each year group produces a long term plan that includes the priorities for the year group. The teachers than produce a curriculum leaflet for Parents and Carers to explain what will be taught each term and how Take Home/homework tasks can support their child’s learning.

Curriculum by Subject Area

To ensure coverage of the curriculum and progression in learning each Subject Leader produces an overview of the key aspects of the curriculum being taught in their subject by each year group. Subject Leaders then produce and action plan to show how the curriculum offer can be amended and improved as necessary. These plans are shared with the SLT.  And appropriate CPD for teachers is then planned into our teachers’ professional development times as necessary.

Impact of the Curriculum

To assess whether the curriculum has met the intentions planned (see above) teaching staff and teaching support staff are actively engaged in reviewing

Associated changes to the School Development Plan are then enacted by the SLT and reported to Governors.
