St Albans Diocese & SIAMS
Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS)
As a Church of England School we regularly have a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS). Our latest inspection was May 2026.
SIAMS inspectors will explore with school and trust leaders how they understand the specific context of the school, and whether they know how to respond to it theologically. Local, diocesan, and national expertise will help school and trust leaders to explore this, so that we can be confident in answering three key questions:
1. Who are we as a school?
2. What are we doing here?
3. How, then, shall we live and learn together?
Importantly, the 2023 SIAMS Framework highlights and seeks understanding of the theology that underpins a school’s Christian vision. It also provides a structure for inspectors and school and trust leaders to, collaboratively, gather evidence of how this vision enables people to flourish. Using this evidence, inspectors then make judgements, holding school and trust leaders to account.
SIAMS, rightly, sets a high bar for each school to live up to its foundation as a Church school through its theologically rooted Christian vision, and it provides affirmation, aspiration, and areas for development for school leaders.
Our latest SIAMS inspection report can be viewed below, and we are very proud to share this with you:

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC)
Spiritual development relates to that aspect of inner life through which pupils acquire insights into their personal experience which are of enduring worth.
Moral development is about the building, by pupils, of a framework of moral values which regulates their personal behaviour. It is also about the development of pupils’ understanding of society’s shared and agreed values.
Social development is about young people working effectively with each other and participating successfully in the community as a whole. It is about the development of the skills and personal qualities necessary for living and working together. It is about functioning effectively in a multi-racial, multi-cultural society.
Cultural development is about pupils’ understanding their own culture and other cultures in their town, region and in the country as a whole. It is about understanding cultures represented in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
Our SMSC Policy is available to view on the Polices tab of our website
